What clients ask about disaster recovery
Q:What is a realistic recovery time?
It depends on your RTO (recovery time objective) and what is critical. For most clients, critical email and file access is restored within 4-8 hours, and full environments within 24-48 hours. During planning we define a realistic RTO for each system based on what is truly business-critical versus what can wait.
Q:Do you actually test the backups, or just take them?
Taking a backup is the easy part. We run scheduled restore drills—recreating a VM from backup, verifying file integrity, and measuring how long it actually takes. You get a pass/fail report with the measured recovery time, not a promise.
Q:How do you protect us against ransomware?
Ransomware loves to encrypt your live backup. We protect against that with immutable (write-once) backup copies in the cloud that an attacker cannot easily delete or encrypt, plus offline retention. If the live environment is compromised, we restore from a clean copy.
Q:Is DR planning only for big companies?
No. A 5-person shop in Longwood or a 50-person firm near the Colonial Drive corridor both need a DR plan. The scope is different, but the principle is the same: know what is critical, back it up somewhere safe, and test that you can bring it back. We right-size the plan to your size and budget.
